Fetal Growth Calculator: Check Fetal Development Status with Ultrasound Measurements
Importance of Fetal Ultrasound Measurements
Values such as head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), and femur length (FL) measured during prenatal ultrasound examinations are compared with standard growth curves by pregnancy week to evaluate fetal development status. Early detection of growth delay or excessive growth allows for appropriate management.
Key Ultrasound Measurement Indicators
- CRL (Crown-Rump Length): Fetal length in early pregnancy (6-13 weeks), determines pregnancy week
- BPD (Biparietal Diameter): Distance between both ends of the skull
- HC (Head Circumference): Head circumference, evaluates brain development
- AC (Abdominal Circumference): Belly circumference, reflects nutritional status
- FL (Femur Length): Thigh bone length, limb development
- EFW (Estimated Fetal Weight): Estimated weight calculated from the above measurements
Signs of Fetal Growth Abnormalities
If measurements are below the 10th percentile, fetal growth restriction (IUGR) is suspected; if above the 90th percentile, macrosomia is suspected. Growth restriction may be caused by placental insufficiency, preeclampsia, infection, etc., while macrosomia may be related to gestational diabetes. If abnormalities are found, additional examinations and close observation are necessary.
Ultrasound Examinations by Pregnancy Week
6-8 weeks: First ultrasound to confirm heartbeat, 11-13 weeks: Birth defect screening (NT measurement), 20-24 weeks: Detailed ultrasound to check structural abnormalities, After 28 weeks: Evaluate fetal growth and amniotic fluid volume. Additional ultrasounds may be performed as needed to continuously monitor fetal status.
